Doula is a Greek word meaning ‘woman servant’
Today they are professionally trained in childbirth to provide information, education, emotional and physical support to a birthing woman throughout the birth process. The doula’s non-medical roll helps the woman to have the birth experience she desires regardless of where or with whom she births.
“If a doula were a drug it would be unethical not to use it.” John H. Kennell, MD.
The use of doulas in labor & delivery has proven to be a very powerful force. It drastically reduces interventions and helps women and their families feel more empowered, no matter what birth plan the have!

Azahra Williams, Birth Doula
Azahra Williams, is a birth doula (DONA trained and working towards DONA International labor doula certification) with goals of becoming a certified lactation councilor (CLC).
Having been born in the UK and raised both there and in Jamaica, Azahra has extensive knowledge of how crucial a positive birth memory is. With those concrete beginnings, and extensive travels and life experiences throughout, Europe, The Caribbean, South Korea and now within America she sees the lack of support and positivity within the birthing profession has a major impact on birth memory.
Azahra wishes to help change this by providing emotional and physical support to any birthing woman who wants and needs it. With unyielding compassion, encouragement, and continuously supporting, not only the birthing woman but her family as well, Azahra aims to help facilitate confidence, empowerment and a positive birth memory for everyone.
Prior to becoming a birth doula Azahra was a qualified Chef working at some of London’s top restaurants, and after attending the birth of her nephew and the not so positive birth experience with her own son, her interest in pregnancy and birth began. But it wasn’t until living in South Korea that she first heard the word Doula and truly found her calling in life.
